Mazur Manor: Timberrrrrrrrrrrr

Bryan came over again to help us fall some trees in the backyard. These days, a tree service will charge an arm and a leg, for just one tree, let alone its branches. So, Austin ordered a wench, mounted in to the back of his Pick-Up and after a few cuts in just the right places, started a-crankin' that thing!

I have to admit that I was a little fearful on this one - I've seen too many YouTube videos of tree trimming fails to go into it carefree. I did a lot of worrying, but also a lot of praying. I'm grateful for his bravery climbing tall ladders and handling large power tools!

Thank goodness Bryan is a hard worker and a loyal brother - I think I went out 1-2 times during this project to help process limbs and carry them to the burn pile. Axel was inside with me so that he didn't get shmooshed by any falling masses! Though, the days I helped, all he did was wander into the wetland (which is now dry and mow-able, hooray!) to chew on the limbs he stole from the fallen trees.

We had to call the power company to come out and disconnect our power line (it ran directly from the roof to the poles along the property line), because many of the trees we needed to take down were either dead, dying, or at high risk of damaging the line if we didn't act before more storms blew threw. My primary responsibility throughout this project, was to keep the food cold on ice for the almost three days we had no power.

We did learn our lesson on this when the massive storm came the night we moved into the house. Our neighbor's tree may have dropped on our side, but I'll be a monkey's uncle if our own are gonna fall and destroy things further!

We've still got a few trees to take out (dead eyesores), but they won't require a disconnect of the power. Navigating my way to the bathroom at night by candlelight proved to actually be quite dangerous. :P
