ROUND 2 (August 18th)
This is just relentless - God you sure must be working something big right now, because the battle is ongoing. If it's not the house, it's the plants around the house; if it's not the plants, it's the roof over our head. Will we ever find rest? Lord, please show us the purpose in this mess. Lord, please bring us into a season of peace.
Less than a week after we crossed the finish line with our roof and insurance woes, we decided it was a good time to take in my little Lola cat. Apparently, Austin and I weren't entirely on the same page though, because we had quite the miscommunication. He knew I was on my way home with her from my parents' place in De Soto, and he was heading home from the Jacobs' job site, where he was doing wood rot repair and a fresh paint job. We both arrived at the same time, and Austin rushed into the house, exhausted and hungry, covered in dirt and ready to shower. Our rambunctious pup ran out the door as he passed through and ran to greet me as I approached the house... with a cat... in my arms... (no, I didn't have her in a carrier, I'm a cat pro)
It all went black. I dizzily caught my balance as the cat hair swept across my face. Out of instinct, my hands shot straight up and caught the critter that was ferociously clinging to my noggin. I scurried away from the excited dog and rushed into the house screaming,
"AUSTIN, GET THE DOG OUTSIDE, NOW!"
I slammed the door shut with my hip after darting into the bedroom and felt, and almost heard, her claws release from my skull, as I dropped her on the bed. She quickly scurried away and hid, in her panic. And as I raised my head to look into the mirror after rinsing the feline fluids off of my face (at least I initially thought they were all her fluids), the shock overcame me and I was in a full fledged CRY.
Austin came in and the look of shock on his face didn't help matters. The panic overwhelmed me. All I could do was bury my face in the towel and convince myself, 'I just need a minute.' That is... until he said, "babe, we need to go to the ER, I think you need stitches". WHAT?!
I'd never had stitches, and now I'm going to have to get them at the claws of my purty-putty-tat.
Austin took me to KU Med, where I was waited on by ER Nurse, Emily... my old classmate and roommate in Minnesota, where we got our first nursing jobs. I was slightly embarrassed, but also comforted by the familiarity, as the lady with the needle approached me in slow motion.
Although I left the ER with the most awkward stitches in my ear, antibiotics and pain killers... I was back before the end of the weekend. ADMITTED. IV Antibiotics for a resistant infection... in my FACE. I even missed the solar eclipse because I was in my hospital room on an IV pump. Being a patient is boring and dreadful - I much prefer being a nurse.
